Older adults
Older adults
People worldwide are living longer and this requires changes to the way societies are structured across all sectors including health and social care, work, housing and transportation (WHO, 2018). In Wales life expectancy at birth in 2017-2019 was 78.5 years for men and 82.3 years for women (National Statistics, 2021). There are now over 600,000 people aged 65 and over and by 2040 this is expected to increase to over 850,000 with over 53,000 people aged 90 and over (StatsWales, 2020).
