Gender
Characteristics of men, women, girls and boys which are socially constructed are referred to as gender. These characteristics can be behaviours and roles associated with being a man, woman, boy or girl as well as relationships with each other. Gender can change over time and vary from culture to culture (World Health Organization, nd).
