Marie Griffiths
Network Co-ordinator
Marie joined the NHS in 2002, starting in Health Promotion in an administrative role.
In 2004 she was seconded within the National Public Health Service into a project officer post supporting Positive Steps, a partnership community exercise referral scheme between health services, GPs and Local Authority. This provided her with the opportunity to develop further and in 2007 graduated from Swansea Metropolitan University with a BA(Hons) in Health Studies and Sociology. Her research during this period was on ‘Attitudes towards and stigmatisation of mental illness’.
She gained promotion within Swansea Public Health Team to Office Manager in 2008 managing the administration team and providing support to the Head of Service, Health Promotion Specialists & Public Health Practitioners. The job was extremely wide ranging and provided experience of working with colleagues in other NHS Teams and local partners in other organisations on a wide health improvement and well being agenda. She has supported local health improvement work on tobacco control, physical activity, sexual health & workplace health, which all contain opportunities for supporting people’s mental & emotional health & well being.
Marie is dedicated to the area of mental health promotion with a focus on evidence based practice and the added value of partnership working.
Marie began her role as the All Wales Mental Health Network Coordinator in July 2010 and is now one of the Public Health Network Cymru Coordinators based within the Wider Determinants of Health Unit in the Health and Wellbeing Directorate.
