Christian Heathcote-Elliott

Principal Public Health Practitioner (Wider Determinants of Health Unit)

Christian has worked within the NHS for 19 years in public health intelligence and health improvement.

He moved to Wales in October 2006 to work for Swansea Local Public Health Team as a health promotion specialist and subsequently as a senior and principal public health practitioner for Abertawe Bro-Morgannwg Public Health Team. During this time he gained extensive experience in a wide range of health improvement issues including offender health, substance misuse, obesity, tobacco control, healthy urban planning and aspects of healthcare public health.

From March 2016 until July 2020 Christian worked as the national principal lead for tobacco control in the Health Improvement Division in Public Health Wales. In this role he was instrumental in providing system leadership for the development and implementation of Help Me Quit – the NHS smoking cessation system for Wales.

He is looking forward to a new challenge and working collaboratively with partners on the ’causes of the causes’ of poor health and health inequalities and to work with the team to further develop the Public Health Network Cymru.
