Health Impact Assessment: The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership

Thursday 13th July 2023
With Public Health Network Cymru

Trade is a key commercial determinant of health and affects everyone in Wales. The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) is one of the largest free trade agreements in the world, including eleven countries on four continents and accounted for £96 billion worth of UK trade in 2018 (7 per cent of total UK trade).  CPTPP came into force on 30 December 2018, and existing members underlined their determination to expand the agreement with new members at CPTPP’s commission meeting on 19 January 2019. The CPTPP has the potential to impact on a range of public health issues across the social determinants of health and affect different populations in different ways. Health Impact Assessment can be an important tool to assess the potential health and well-being impacts of trade deals. This webinar will discuss the HIA findings of the CPTTP for Wales with a focus on health, well-being and equity impacts.

Join our panel of experts to find out about the second ever Health Impact Assessment carried out on the CPTPP in the world.

Learning Outcomes:

  • the areas of the value of HIA in trade,
  • the implications for Wales and the UK,
  • how can we use the HIA (advocacy) and perspectives from representatives of different organisations.
